A fig’n juicy snack!

Its been everywhere, and I’m not sure when the fig season is but I cant go past a crate of the juicy purplish little drop-shaped fruits without picking a few. There have been times when I have been tempted to pop one of those little things right into my mouth, but my mommy taught me better; so no fruit goes into my mouth without being washed.

It was a weekend morning and I was looking forward to having something rather healthy and man was I dreaming of those figs I picked up yesterday. So first thing after I woke up, I ran to the fridge and grabbed them all out (with a “my precious” grin on my face) and made my dream come true :)

So here’s a super simple and healthy snack… Figs and Prosciutto with spiced yoghurt.

Fig and Prosciutto Snack

Serves 2 or more
Prep time 15 minutes
Allergy Milk
Meal type Appetizer, Dessert, Snack, Starter
Misc Child Friendly, Pre-preparable, Serve Cold
Occasion Casual Party

Ingredients

  • 5-6 Juicy Figs
  • Few Strips of Prosciutto

Spiced Yoghurt

  • 1 cup Low Fat Yoghurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg

Directions

This recipe is so easy it has just 3 steps. Start off by cutting the figs crosswise so it blossoms open like a flower
Roughly roll up a strip of prosciutto and place it in between each fig
Mix all the ingredients of the spiced yoghurt and drizzle on top of the figs and prosciutto!
Simple :)

Enjoy!

Most figs I find here in Dubai lack flavor, sometimes I get lucky in picking sweet ones. These guys up here were sweet and I guess it was intuition :)
But mostly when you pick figs they should be a deep, deep purple, not too tough, slightly soft and tender; if it is tough then its not ready yet. Also dont pick the ones that are mushy and bruised.
      I hope that helps :)
